bought one of these years ago on closeout when they still had od. It's ridden on my fixed stock ar-15 since then. Aside from holding a mag, it's been used to hold cleaning accessories or first aid supplies, depending on what i'm doing. easy to use, durable. it can make support side shooting trickier, but is easily removed. my title might be misleading, as this is another fine quality pouch for spec ops brand, just beware you must have full butt stock m16 as i did on one deployment. at the time only color option was black, now is much better choices to help camouflage the famous black rifle. catch is straps can interfere slightly with cheek weld if you don't practice with it. i have several of these for various different long guns.

as with most SOB stuff, it's way overbuilt - your rifle will certainly break before this does.

as a civilian who (thankfully) doesn't need to carry around mag pouches, the main advantage is that it keeps a mag firmly on the rifle without the rifle being loaded.
this is useful when you carry a truck gun, or carry your weapon from car to house or campsite.
this avoids misconceptions by LEO's, and is an additional layer of safety when un-trained folks are around.

it is somewhat inconvenient to have the webbing on the stock while firing, but having a mag at the ready solidly outweighs that. (Posted on 6/24/2012)

I'm in the military and have had this mag pouch going on 3 deployments. It's the quality that Spec-ops is known for and made from 1000 codura that last even in rough conditions. This mag pouch has carried a magizine in it for alomost 3 years now and is well used and will last many years to come. Another great product from Spec-ops. (Posted on 6/4/2012)
AR-15 & M-16, Buttstock Mag PouchReview by SWAN

This and the mag-well magazine carrier are great for "at the ready" magazine carry. The added benefit of the top of stock sling attachment point is another plus to this pouch especially during transitional fire. It keeps the rifle "indexed" properly and flat against the body and goes well with the proper SPEC-OPS sling for your style rifle. Have had experience with both the M16 and M4 variant and they both work very well. I preferred a 20-rounder in this pouch and a 30-rounder in the mag-well attachment; that's up to 60 rounds ready for immediate use without all your other gear. (Posted on 1/31/2012)

Good for NON-redi mag riflesReview by Lendell

I usually like the Redi-mag for my ARs but since they don't make one for the Robarm XCR, I went with one of these. As stated, I'm sure a mag change in the middle of combat would probably be awkward, but it allows you to carry one extra mag. (Posted on 12/25/2011)

not good for on patrol but a good way to keep the required spare mag while deployed (Posted on 12/4/2011)

This thing is amazing for carrying around the extra magazine that you are required to have on the FOB. Other than that, I would not use it in combat as it is awkward. Solid product (Posted on 12/3/2011)
